Venezuela Slams ‘Military Provocation’ as US Warship Docks in Trinidad

Venezuela has accused the United States and Trinidad and Tobago of “military provocation” after a US guided-missile destroyer, the USS Gravely, docked in Port of Spain. The visit forms part of US President Donald Trump’s broader effort to pressure President Nicolás Maduro, whom he accuses - without evidence - of ties to organised crime. Caracas, however, has blasted the move as an attempt to “fabricate a new eternal war.” Officials in Trinidad insist the warship’s stay is routine and linked to joint training exercises, though regional analysts say tensions between Washington and Caracas are clearly rising. Phemelo speaks to Global Affairs Specialist and Senior Fellow of the Montreal Institute of Global Security, Dr Terence McNamee.
