Activists Push for Apartheid Victims to Be Recognized in UN Treaty

Human rights advocates from Southern Africa are rallying behind a historic move: calling for apartheid victims to be officially recognised in a new United Nations treaty on crimes against humanity. At the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), currently underway in Banjul, campaigners want the Commission to back this inclusion in the draft treaty now under negotiation. This push could reshape global accountability for apartheid-era crimes and potentially set a precedent for other historic injustices. Nzinga Qunta speaks to Professor Lisa Davis, Senior Associate Dean at CUNY School of Law, for deeper insight.
