Exclusive Video: Suspended IDT CEO Offers R60K Bribe to Stop Daily Maverick Investigation

In what may be one of the most audacious attempts at bribery ever caught on camera in South Africa, suspended CEO of the Independent Development Trust (IDT), Tebogo Malaka, and spokesperson Phasha Makgolane allegedly offered a Daily Maverick journalist R60,000 in cash to halt an ongoing investigation. Daily Maverick has released an exclusive video and audio footage from a meeting held on Sunday, 3 August, at a well-known Stellenbosch wine farm, where Malaka and Makgolane presented the cash and promised additional rewards if the journalist cooperated. The investigation reportedly involves an IDT contract linked to one of Malaka’s high-end properties. In previous interactions, the IDT spokesperson had hinted that Malaka was seeking to “settle” the matter involving her property by offering a payoff. Phemelo gets the full story and insights from investigative journalist at the Daily Maverick, Pieter-Louis Myburgh.
