During bouts of heavy load shedding in recent years, which adversely affected households and brought businesses to a halt, South Africa’s power utility was forced to enter into multimillion rand 20-year contracts with independent power producers – but without the option of an exit, according to Eskom chair Mteto Nyati. The team gave background of how we arrived in this situation, and asked listeners if these IPPs should be cancelled.
