Paralympian Mpumelelo Mhlongo explains what a T44 disability actually means

South Africa has a new sporting hero in Mpumelelo Mhlongo, who secured the country’s first medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games. Mhlongo, competing in the T44 100m final, won gold with a time of 11.12 seconds at Stade de France. The 30-year-old, who holds the world record of 11.00, expressed satisfaction with his performance despite not breaking the record.

Mhlongo, Team SA’s flag-bearer for the opening ceremony, celebrated his victory with his family in attendance.

Mpumelelo, known by his friends as 'Mpumi', joined the East Coast Breakfast team this morning.
