Victims of Jagersfontein dam burst get new homes

About 106 houses have been handed over by the Jagersfontein Developments Mine to families affected by the dam wall collapse in the area in 2022. About 160 families in Jagersfontein in the Free State, were displaced when a mine dam wall burst and sludge flooded part of the town, destroying homes and infrastructure. Two people died. Fifty-year-old Mantele Mokgadi’s body is still missing. Over 90 families have opted to have the mine rebuild and to renovate their homes, while others are taking the legal route to have the mine reimburse them.
