Vietnamese real estate tycoon Truong My Lan has been sentenced to death by a Vietnam court for her involvement in a $12 billion fraud case. It’s reported to be one of the most severe punishments ever for white-collar crime—and caps the biggest financial fraud case in the country’s history, with total damages amounting to the equivalent of 3% of the country’s GDP. Sizwe Dhlomo, Sol Phenduka and Mpho Maboi deliberate on whether this is a fit punishment or too extreme.
