Author Andrew Brown says he used his latest thriller to show how likeability and circumstance can shape the way we perceive law enforcement and the so-called "baddies" they pursue.

His crime novel "The Heistmen" has been nominated for the Sunday Times Literary Awards in partnership with Exclusive Books.

Andrew drew on his decades of work in the police and as a lawyer to delve into the sophisticated planning that goes into cash-in transit heists - a prolific crime here in South Africa.
