French President Emmanuel Macron has raised the idea of handing out quick-fire fines to the parents of children caught committing vandalism or robberies as part of the government’s response to days of rioting. Sizwe Dhlomo posed the question, in the context of South Africa with its protest culture, “who should bear the brunt of a child's behaviour between said child and their parent?”
