Now that the city of Joburg’s budget has finally been passed, the council will have to explain how funds will be used to sort out the illegal dumping crisis gripping Kya Sands.

13 years ago the landfill site in the area reached capacity and was decommissioned.

But criminals broke down the fencing and have been illegally dumping toxic waste and rubble at 9 sites in the area.
