With the South African Government vaccination roll-out plan well underway with over 19 million jabs administered, questions are being asked about fans attending live soccer matches and when they will be allowed into stadiums. Under the current adjusted level 1 lockdown regulations, 2000 people are allowed to attend outdoor gatherings, however, our stadiums still sit empty, and clubs continue to lose ticket sales. During the second leg between Bafana Bafana and Ethiopia, 2000 vaccinated spectators were permitted to enter the FNB stadium, but since then, the PSL board have discussed this match and have reduced said number of vaccinated fans right down to 165 people. During the MTN8 final, which is only a matter of days away, the PSL will attempt this new strategy to get a better understanding of ticket allocations, and protocol safety. During the latest episode of The Carwash, former Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana star Teko Modise, elaborates on the current format of allowing fans into stadiums, asking “are teams doing anything about this?” The general continues by saying that “teams should be advocating and promoting vaccinations to get their fans back into stadiums.” This poses the question, why aren't teams doing anything to get their fans into stadiums?
