Episode 80: CONSCIOUS PARENTING! with CPASA founders Clare Emms and Jess Prinsloo

CONSCIOUS PARENTING…

If we’re honest, the term would typically give us the heebie-jeebies. How can certain Instagrammers (typically living their conscious, peaceful life on the other side of the world) tell us – with a contrived pic and limited word count – how to handle OUR kids in the moment? Those posts (we all know them) that tell us, instead of XYZ, do ABC, don’t f*ckin work. We know, we’ve tried. Our kids are smarter than that. YOU, Instagrammer, don’t know MY kid. YOU’RE not in my house. YOU don’t know my life. Sometimes WE just need to show our kids who’s boss, right? So take your meme and shove it where the sun don’t shine.

We’ll admit, #nojudgies and all, that we’ve had those thoughts. Or rather, we’ve been having those thoughts. But we’ve also always admitted to not having parenting waxed and, quite frankly, we’re also pretty damn sick of raising our voices and fighting with our kids. We had kids to enjoy this parenting gig, right? So why does it always feel like such a slog? Show me a mom who, when they fell pregnant thought, “One day, I’m gonna be the shouty mom. My kids will run roughshod over me and I’m gonna scream like a banshee till they listen. And if that doesn’t work, blunt force should do the trick.”

Are you that mom? Do you know a mom like that? I’d hesitate to guess that that would probably be a negative.

Parenting is HARD, ya’ll. And from the beginning of TGE we never pretended that it was anything else. So we’re continuing in our quest to explore, to learn, to grow. Which is why, prejudice and scepticism aside, we invited Clare Emms (Ripple Effect Parenting) and Jess Prinsloo (Best Behaviour) onto the show and (promise) we behaved ourselves.

We’re saying no more except that EVERY parent needs to listen to this episode.
