Many a therapist have been quoted as urging people to exercise self control and stepping away from a dispute with someone until there is calm.

This is, however, always easier said than done.

I think we can all admit to saying something we wish we had not said during an argument or fight with someone. When you are in an argument, your emotions seemingly take over and some of us tend to do what we refer to as 'going below the belt'. Very often, even after there has been a reconciliation, the words exchanged remain etched on mind and heart of the other party.
