In releasing the highly-anticipated National Senior Certificate (NSC) results, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga stated although the pass rate dropped from 81.3% in 2019, the quality of passes in 2020 was better than the previous year. One clear example of this is the Free State's Top Matric Achiever, Marc van der Nest, having obtained nine distinctions. Die Hoër meisieskool Oranje spog ook met 12 leerders in die top 50 in die Vrystaat. Een van hulle is, Christi Dempers, wat net die vierde Oranjeniet sedert 2009 geword het om 9 onderskeidings te bereik, en die eerste een in 7 jaar.
