Six months on: some lives will never be the same

On March 23, President Cyril Ramaphosa ushered in a different way of life for all South Africans. Most thought that once the initial 21 days of lockdown was over, life would go back to normal. But now, six months after the lockdown, life has changed for many. Some have experienced job losses, illnesses, loss of loved ones and exhausting shifts on the frontline.

It's three months since 19-year-old Amy Volkwijn lost both her parents on the same day to Covid-19. Life has changed drastically for her. She speaks about her grief, the changes in her life and the way forward.
