Will US-China trade war fuel next global financial crisis?

--:--
Heightened trade tensions between the US and China has sparked fears that it may fuel the next global financial crisis. Talks to end the trade conflict fell apart earlier this month and US President Donald Trump has no intentions of returning to the negotiating table anytime soon and has vowed that China will not become the world's top superpower under his watch.

Visiting professor of international relations at Wits University John Stremlau joined Business Day TV with his views on where things are headed and what the spillover effects could be.

Huawei is the latest casualty in heightened trade tensions between the US and China, that with President Trump banning all US companies from doing business with the Chinese tech giant. He has however lifted the ban by 90 days. Earlier this month, Huawei overtook Apple to become the second-largest smartphone maker and company's CEO, Richard Yu announced that it could overtake Samsung next year and become world leader but what with this trade ban in place, does the prospect still stand?

MD of World Wide Worx Arthur Goldstuck joins Business Day TV on the line with his take.
