In this episode of the TechCentral podcast, Duncan McLeod chats to Andy Bax, chief operating officer of Seaborn Networks, the company planning to build the first direct subsea cable between South Africa and Brazil.
Called SABR - and pronounced "sabre" - the cable will have a design capacity of up to 40Tbit/s and provide the most direct route and lowest latencies between South Africa, Brazil and the US.
In the podcast, Bax explains the progress Seaborn has made with the project so far, when it's likely to go online and the impact he believes it's going to have on Internet users in South Africa.
He talks about Seaborn's plans to interconnect the SABR cable with the new IOX cable to be built in the Indian Ocean, connecting South Africa to routes in Asia.
It's a great podcast. Don't miss it!
