Thank you for listening to the TechCentral podcast. In this episode, Duncan McLeod is joined by Larry Schwartz, the CEO of US-based Seaborn Networks, the company that plans to build a new, high-capacity submarine cable system between South Africa and Brazil.
The cable, which will have an initial design capacity of 24Tbit/s, will provide connectivity between South Africa, the Middle East and India (via the planned IOX cable system), and Brazil, with onward connectivity to the important US market.
In the podcast, Schwartz explains why Seaborn has decided to build a subsea cable linking South Africa and Brazil, how the business model works and why he believes there is a big opportunity for providing an alternative route to the US.
Called SABR, and pronounced "sabre", the system is expected to be ready for service by the second half of 2019.
It's a fascinating insight into the world of submarine cable systems - don't miss it!
