Mineworker killed in trench collapse in Welkom

A mineworker was killed in Welkom yesterday after parts of a trench collapsed on him.

Free State police spokesperson, Stephen Thakeng, says Harmony Gold Mine employees were digging a hole while fixing a burst pipe when the wall caved in. No other injuries were reported.

Thakeng says the deceased's next of kin have been informed of the incident, and the police investigation continues.
