Concourt ruling a victory for democracy: DA

The Democratic Alliance (DA) says it hopes the Constitutional Court ruling that it's unconstitutional to remove MPs from Parliament or arrest them, will lead to constructive and robust debate in the National Assembly.

The court ruled this morning that Section 11 of Parliament's Powers and Privileges Act was not in line with the country's Constitution.

The DA had approached the highest court in the land to confirm an earlier Western Cape High Court ruling that police cannot be called to forcibly remove members from the chamber.

DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach says the ruling is a win for the party and for democracy.
