Ten NW municipalities could also soon be in the dark

Ten municipalities in the North West province, which collectively owe Eskom more than R520 million, are now also facing power cuts. Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says the power utility has given notice that it will partially cut power supply to the Madibeng Municipality in Brits, Lekwa-Teemane Local Municipality in Christiana, Ditsobotla Local Municipality in Lichtenburg, as well as the Ventersdorp and Maquassie Hills Municipalities among others. Phasiwe says North West is one of the three worst defaulters in the country.

The full list of municipalities that owe Eskom outstanding electricity bills is as follows:

Madibeng - R22 million
Ditsobotla -144 million
Leekwa Teemane - R56 million
Maquassie Hills - R17 million
Ventersdorp - R49 million
Mamusa - R34 million
Naledi - R143 million
Tswaing - R22 million
Kgetlengtivier - R39 million
Ramotshere - R60 million.
