The family tragedy two weeks ago in Kakamas, during which five children died after they became trapped in an old freezer, became the focus of the Safety Month Campaign in the province this week.

The Northern Cape provincial government launched its campaign in Kakamas with a focus on creating a safe environment for children in the province.

During the campaign residents are encouraged to get rid of old appliances and cars with the help of the municipality.

Northern Cape Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC, Martha Bartlett, says residents will be helped to transport these safety hazards to scrap metal buyers.
