A follow-up meeting between a Northern Cape government delegation and Eskom will take place on Friday to discuss a payment plan to recover municipal debt owed to the power utility.

Eskom threatened to cut off the electricity supply to five municipalities in the province that owe Eskom more than R113m and defaulted on their payment plans. The municipalities - Ubuntu, Thembelihle, Magareng, Renosterberg and Dikgatlong - include the towns of Victoria West, Hopetown, Barkly West and Petrusville.

The provincial government delegation, led by Premier Sylvia Lucas, met with Eskom earlier this week.

Eskom spokesperson Khulu Phasiwe says an agreement was reached which will mean the lights in these town will stay on for now.
