A Northern Cape man is expected to appear in court today in connection with the illegal possession of human body parts.

The 27-year-old man from Bathlaros was arrested on Friday afternoon after a tip-off from a community member.

Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba said the body parts, which include a heart and lungs, were found in the suspect's freezer. He is employed at a funeral parlour in Kuruman.

Ramatseba said the reason the man kept the body parts is not yet clear and police investigations are continuing.

The body parts will be sent to a forensic laboratory in Pretoria.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mothibistad Magistrate's Court.
