Cape Town arts and culture champion Ingrid Fortuin’s Mission to Empower Young South African Artists

The initiative’s impact is already evident in the journeys of young South African creatives. Hlumelo Ntshangana, who was discovered at Zama Dance School in Gugulethu at the age of 15, went on to study at the School of the Hamburg Ballet in Germany, perform at the prestigious Prix de Lausanne and secure a position with the National Youth Ballet in Hamburg in 2026. Another young dancer, Owethu Cassandra Jonas, joined Joburg Ballet in 2026 with support from the initiative, which funded her travel to take up the opportunity.
