Heritage Day | The role that language plays in preserving our heritage - Poetry with The Aura and Karamel

This Heritage Day, Mpho Molefe and Jones Netshipise are in studio with poets -the Aura and Karamel to celebrate the many things that make us who we are, our languages, our stories, our traditions and the ways we pass them from one generation to the next. One of the oldest ways of preserving those stories is through poetry. Long before social media, before books were widely accessible, people used spoken word, praise poetry, songs and storytelling to preserve history, identity and culture. But today, we’re seeing young people communicate differently, and sometimes, even choosing to express themselves in languages that are not necessarily their mother tongue.
