The African Christian DeMocratic Party in Ekurhuleni is calling for urgent action from SAPS following the discovery of the bodies of five women in Kempton Park and Olifantsfontein.
The party says authorities must intensify efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible, while also calling on the City of Ekurhuleni to improve safety by ensuring that streetlights remain operational and that overgrown grass and public spaces are properly maintained.
The ACDP argues that poorly lit streets and overgrown areas can create hiding places for perpetrators and increase the risks faced by women walking in the area.
On iTalk Youth, we speak to ACDP Ekurhuleni Councillor Palesa Yates about the party’s concerns, the response from SAPS and the City of Ekurhuleni, and what more needs to be done to improve women’s safety.
