IN CONVERSATION WITH ANEES KATHRADA

Today, we’re taking a closer look at a fascinating and highly competitive sport that combines passion, precision, breeding, strategy and an incredible bond between humans and their birds pigeon racing.

Our focus is on Pigeon Universe and two individuals who are making their mark in South Africa’s pigeon racing community Anees Kathrada and Fareed Kathrada.

Anees Kathrada is an active competitive fancier in the South African pigeon racing circuit. Flying out of the South Western Homing Society, or SWHS, under the Transvaal Racing Pigeon Federation, TRPF, Anees manages his own loft and competes across some of the country's most challenging routes from fast-paced short sprints to gruelling endurance races covering more than 600 kilometres. He is also nationally registered with SANPO.

Then there is Fareed Kathrada, a key figure in South Africa's pigeon racing community — both in the skies and behind the scenes.
So, whether you're already a pigeon-racing enthusiast or you're hearing about this fascinating sport for the first time, let's get into the world of racing pigeons, competition, preparation and the business behind the birds.
