The battle for control of the City of Johannesburg is intensifying ahead of the November 4 local government elections.
The ANC is yet to settle on a single mayoral candidate, the party has shortlisted three names which includes the incumbent mayor Dada Morero, his deputy Loyiso Masuku, and veteran ANC leader Reverend Frank Chikane.
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has already announced former Midvaal mayor Bongani Baloyi as its candidate.
The South African Communist Party is also entering the election independently for the first time, but has not yet publicly named a Johannesburg mayoral candidate.
