The race for the City of Johannesburg mayoral seat is gaining momentum, poet, musician and social activist Ntsiki Mazwai has entered the contest as the Land Party’s mayoral candidate.
Mazwai, who was born in Johannesburg, is known for her bold views on politics, culture and social issues. She has thrown her hat in the ring and has moved from being a critic of the city to wanting to play a direct role in running it.
Mazwai will contest the mayoral race under the Land Party, which was founded by Gcobani Ndzongana and emerged from land-related activism in Hermanus. The party first contested elections in 2019 and later participated in the 2021 local government elections.
Its political platform has traditionally focused on land reform, economic transformation, and advancing the interests of the poor and working-class communities
