From Poverty to Wealth: How mindset can rewrite our money stories

In this episode of Money: It’s Not Black or White, my co-host Mapalo Makhu and I had the opportunity of sitting down with GIBS Professor Frank Magwegwe to discuss his new book, Reclaiming Dignity: My Journey from Homelessness to University. Beyond a narrative of personal resilience, Frank’s story offers a profound masterclass in financial psychology, human empathy, and personal transformation. I have known Frank Magwegwe for over a decade, and what has always struck me is his humility and interest in people. He has an amazing story to tell, yet he finds other people’s stories equally interesting. Although both Mapalo and I knew Frank’s story, it was only by reading his book that we understood the power of gratitude in turning around his fortunes – and it is a lesson I believe we could all learn from. During our podcast discussion, we got to ask Frank about this turning point, the impact financial trauma still has on him today and how he pays it forward.
