The work of the Madlanga Commission continues to place South Africa’s law enforcement and oversight institutions under intense scrutiny. The latest development comes from the Activists and Citizens Forum, which has issued a strongly worded statement calling for the removal of Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Andrea Johnson.
The organisation’s comments follow testimony before the Commission in which Advocate Johnson reportedly acknowledged that she had not personally seen or reviewed Brigadier Dineo Mokwele’s qualifications before making remarks about them, later withdrawing those comments. The Forum argues that the withdrawal is insufficient, saying Brigadier Mokwele suffered reputational damage after being arrested and appearing in court.
