South Africa has made important progress in the fight against tuberculosis (TB), but the country is not yet winning the battle. TB remains one of the leading causes of death in South Africa, and although there have been significant improvements in diagnosis, treatment access, and prevention efforts over the past decade, the funding cuts from the US seem to have set us back a little bit. Our Breakfast Champion today is an organisation that has put their weight behind the research and the call for stronger collaboration, innovation and African-led solutions in the continued fight against TB. Dr Awelani Mutshembele- a Specialist Scientist at the South African Medical Research Council's Office of AIDS and TB and she joins Mpho Molefe and Jones Netshipise as they celebrate the SAMRC as the Breakfast Champions.
