This week on The Africa Tech Kin, we go deep on Econet's biggest week in digital services. Econet Wireless Zimbabwe launched Econet AI as a dedicated business unit in Harare, led by CEO Navdeep Kapur and attended by ICT Minister Tatenda Mavetera. We cover the launche of the Econet AI business unit, Cassava AiCloud for enterprise computing, and consumer products. We hear from the launch event featuring Econet Deputy CEO Roy Chimanikire, Econet AI CEO Navdeep Kapur, and Minister Tatenda Mavetera, and we look at Econet AI's four pillars: compute, algorithms, data, and indigenous language models for Shona and Ndebele.
On the same day, Econet rolled out EcoCloud, a consumer cloud storage service. We also discuss listener feedback around product reliability and data portability.
The Minister of Justice has gazetted Statutory Instrument 76 of 2026, extending the Companies and Other Business Entities re-registration deadline from 20 April 2026 to 20 April 2028.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has launched formal investigations into a social media activist over allegations of circulating fake police statements online. The ZRP has also lodged a formal complaint with X.
We close with Anthropic's launch of Claude Design, an AI tool that generates prototypes, slide decks, and one-pagers from text prompts. We map where AI-powered design now sits across Claude Design, Google's Gemini Canvas, ChatGPT Canvas, and Lovable, and what that means for Zimbabwean founders, marketers, and creators.
