Vaal Triangle Unites in Prayer After Tragic Loss of 14 Learners

The Vaal Triangle community is rallying together in prayer following the devastating taxi-truck collision near Fochville Park on January 19th that claimed the lives of 14 school learners. What began as a normal Monday morning ended in unimaginable tragedy for families who waved goodbye to their children, never expecting those beautiful voices to be silenced forever.
"I cried on Monday because I was like, God, where are you?" community organizer Bongi shared on JustGospel Radio's "Pray On It Thursday" segment with host Carlett Badenhorst. "And then I remembered—He's always there, even in bad situations. He said in His word, He'll never leave us nor forsake us."
In response to the tragedy, Bongi has organized a candlelight prayer vigil at the Vaal Drift robots (traffic lights), calling the community to gather in unity and intercession. "The agenda for tonight is to have a moment of silence to honor the students that passed on, to pray for the Vaal Triangle, for this dark cloud, for God to intervene," she explains. "Right now we need God's intervention more than anything."
The location holds symbolic significance. "Vaal Drift robots is a 4-way street," Bongi notes. "That will carry our prayers. We're asking God to plead the blood of Jesus across that four-way so that whatever car drives in the Vaal Triangle will be covered by the blood of Jesus."
The tragedy comes amid a disturbing pattern of youth deaths in the region, including a recent drowning. "It feels as if the enemy wants to annihilate a generation," Carlett observed. "We need all the pastors, evangelists to come together to say enough is enough. When you lose your youth, you're losing a generation."
Bongi is calling for the same unity that brought rain to the Vaal in 1989 when all churches gathered in prayer. "I'm calling for that spirit again to prevail," she urges. "Let the spirit of prayer in the Vaal Triangle prevail. When the saints start to pray, we need just one person—and we've got many coming to the robots tonight."
The prayer initiative extends beyond mourning to protection. "We need to start praying: Lord, protect our children on the road," Carlett emphasized. "Let our children be safe. Draw a line and say enough is enough. Our children will be protected by the blood of Jesus Christ."
Attendees are asked to bring candles for the vigil and come prepared with scripture and prayer. The event aims to honor not just the departed but to intercede for all children still using scholar transport daily.
JustGospel Radio is supporting the initiative with on-site presence and will be organizing a larger revival day for the Vaal Triangle. "The foundation of everything is prayer," Carlett declared. "The time for revival in the Vaal is now."
