South Africa continues to face some of the highest levels of alcohol-related harm globally — from trauma cases and road accidents to gender-based violence, lost productivity and long-term health complications. The South African Alcohol Policy Alliance (SAAPA) is advocating for stronger regulations under the Alcohol Amendment Bill, including taxation measures that aim to reduce harmful drinking patterns, especially among young people.
