Vusi Mayisa, known on Tik Tok as @thandumuzi, is an online creator with 150 000 followers and 1.7 million likes on his account. His content focuses on real-world e-hailing driver experiences such as safety tips, industry challenges, and life behind the wheel in the e-hailing industry. Over time, his videos have highlighted both the lighter moments of the job, and the serious risks drivers face, especially when working around certain malls within Johannesburg.
Today, we’re speaking to Vusi to hear first-hand what it’s like to work as an e-hailing driver during a period of growing tension within the community.

With recent violent incidents including the attack at Maponya Mall that left two drivers injured and one dead, our conversation today aims to understand how these events have impacted e-hailing drivers across the city.
