This May, as we observe National Teen Self-Esteem Month 2025, there’s an urgent need to shine a spotlight on South African teenage boys, many of whom are silently battling low confidence, societal pressure, and limited emotional support. This annual initiative is a call to action for families, schools, and communities to actively support the mental and emotional well-being of teen boys across the country.

While all teens face challenges around self-esteem, young South African men are often expected to “tough it out,” discouraging open conversations about vulnerability, fear, or failure. This pressure to appear strong can hide deep struggles with identity, confidence, and mental health.
