Durban's amazing biodiversity

Loading player...
Durban is home to one of South Africa’s most unique environmental treasures: the Maputaland-Pondoland-Albany Hotspot, one of only three globally recognized biodiversity hotspots in the country. This extraordinary location boasts a remarkable variety of ecosystems and an unusually wide range of plant and animal species, many of which are found nowhere else in the world. However, Durban's biodiversity faces increasing threats from climate change, invasive species, and urban expansion.

In the first episode of The Green Scene, Andiswa Susan Dlamini, Duncan Pritchard, and Sharlene Versfeld talk about the importance of preserving this biodiversity. The conversation also explores practical ways to connect with nature in a positive way.
