On Dereks Classics, Vidette Ryan ,Ex-Olympian talks about her journey in the sport world & how she rose to the top ranks

This week’s Drakenstein gamechanger of the week is Vidette Ryan, a school psychologist for the Cape Winelands Education Department. Vidette is an ex- Olympian who played for the Protea women's hockey team at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. Vidette is a country girl from Beaufort-West, who excelled at sports in primary school. She says that one day, she saw a young man playing around with a stick and a ball and decided then that this was the sport that she wanted to participate in. When she went to high school she was exposed to hockey and took to it like a duck to water. Eventually represented the country in the sport. She also excelled in other sports like athletics and football. Vidette also has a twin sister who is equally adept at playing sports.
