Friday, 15 December 2023, a National Sports Day Celebration, following the Springboks’ record-breaking fourth Rugby World Cup title victory, President Cyril Ramaphosa declared 15 December 2023 a public holiday. Remember it? We won the rugby world cup. Hosted a successful netball world cup. Banyana Banyana did exceptionally well in the Fifa Women’s World Cup. From hockey to football, to swimming, athletics. What a year.
