The 2019/20 English Premier League was the inaugural season with VAR being used. The groundbreaking technology was brought in to assist the referees and since then, matters have gotten far worse than ever predicted. It seems as though in the current game, the refs are relying on VAR and not using it as an extra aid. Multiple decisions have been scrutinised, with none more chaotic than a goal award for Newcastle against Arsenal when the Gunners dropped all 3 points. Mikel Arteta publicly criticised the decision and since then, Arsenal FC has decided to take further action.

On the latest episode of the International News Desk, former Mamelodi Sundowns goalie Sean Roberts speaks with Soccer Laduma International news correspondent, Kurt Buckerfield about the poor use of VAR around the world. The gents unpack the horrid decisions that have been made using technology supposedly meant to aid the refs. Conversations about Kylian Mbappe's future take place with the Parisian seemingly not interested in joining Real Madrid!
