The State of School Cricket

--:--
Cricket in South Africa is at a turning point. With dwindling numbers of young cricketers at elite cricket schools, a continued world cup drought, and diminishing test cricket there is no doubt that there is a problem needing to be addressed.

In this episode, brought to you by Spur, Alex chats to Niels Momberg, the Youth and Tertiary Cricket Manager from Cricket South Africa (CSA). Niels shares his vision for the future of schools cricket, what the current pipeline looks like to progress from school to professional cricket and how opportunities are evolving. The impact of the SA20 is also discussed.

This interview is the first in a two part series. Next week the discussion continues with Niels focussing on cricket after school and specifically one area where cricket is growing quickly and exponentially in South Africa: the women’s game.
