Gauteng officials say they will deal harshly with any employee found to have been involved in the acts of theft at the Chris Hani baragwanath hospital in Soweto.

Human Settlements MEC Lebogang Maile says a full investigation into this matter is being put together.

He was addressing the media at the hospital this afternoon where he undertook an oversight visit.

His visit was aimed at inspecting the extent of damage caused by the theft of copper pipes at the hospital.

The hospital was hit by two theft incidents this week which put the lives of patients at risk.

Maile says so far, the information available points to sabotage.
