Supporters of the national sex workers’ movement Sisonke demonstrated outside the Johannesburg magistrate’s courts on Tuesday to call for the urgent decriminalisation of the industry ahead of the first appearance of a 21-year-old suspect accused of killing six women believed to be sex workers.

Sisonke spokesperson Katlego Rasebitse said the murders of the women was a “massacre”. Rasebitse said the killing of sex workers would continue if the decriminalisation of the industry was further delayed by law makers.
