The National Employers Association of South Africa (NEASA) is off a view that an increase in the National minimum wage can result in a higher unemployment rate. In this podcast, OFM News' Tshehla Koteli will be chatting to NEASA’s Chief Executive, Gerhard Papenfus. The conversation comes days before the cutoff date, 1 October 2022 to submit written representations to the National Minimum Wage Commission concerning the possibility of adjustments to the national minimum wage. Papenfus says there has to be a balance when the national minimum wage increases, because this can also lead to high unemployment rate.
NEASA will be conducting a survey till 1 October 2022 to help them compile a meaningful written representations to the commission. With the help of employers participating in the survey, Papenfus says through this they will also be able to see if South Africans can afford any more increases.
