John Robbie had nightmares about being tackled on the rugby field by one of the fastest of the hardmen of the game, Ray Mordt. Ray and John were opponents during the Test series between the Springboks and the British and Irish Lions in 1980, and teammates for Transvaal. In this podcast, John chats to Ray about his formative rugby years in what was then Rhodesia, the 1980 Lions tour, his hat-trick against the All Blacks in the 3rd Test at Eden Park in Auckland during the demo-ridden 1981 Springbok tour, and his shock decision to turn his back on amateur Rugby Union and join the ranks of the paid professionals in Rugby League playing for Wigan in England - the rugby equivalent of committing High Treason.
