The University of the Free State awarded world human rights icon and anti-apartheid activist, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, an honorary doctorate in Theology in January 2011. More than a decade later he received the award, he launched several other projects at the institution. Archbishop Desmond Tutu passed away on Sunday morning. Rector and Vice-Chancellor at the university, Francis Petersen, says the country has lost an incredible leader.
