This week on the Touchdown we focus on Global Disability Awareness Month and the importance of celebrating our athletes with disabilities.
Now the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games that recently took place in Japan reminded us as South Africans of how incredibly talented our Paralympians are with them bringing home a total of seven medals, four of them were gold medals, one silver and 2 bronze medals.
Pieter du Preez, who won South Africa’s last gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympic games and was also nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award for Sportsperson of the Year with a Disability in 2016, said that more can be done to celebrate our local Paralympians.
Rienhardt Hamman, who won a gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic games in the T38 category, explained why it is so important to celebrate our Paralympic athletes.
Ultimately, Louzanne Coetzee, who won a silver and bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympic Games, shared some words of inspiration for future Paralympic stars.
