This year’s MTBPS will centre around stabilising the local economy, given the continued negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the July social unrest, in an attempt to bring SA’s debt down to sustainable levels.
Given the revenue projections are set to exceed what was originally forecast by some margin the pressure to spend on items such as social grants and salaries from inside the ruling party will be immense.
In markets, China dragged on Asian shares on Friday as they failed to latch on to a global record-setting rally after a week in which central banks around the world refrained from any hawkish surprises in a boost to the dollar.
